Episode 135 – Addicted To That Russian?

Sergey Sirotkin

This time last year we were waiting on Mercedes to choose who would take the last seat on the grid after Nico Rosberg’s shock retirement, which ended up leaving a vacancy at Williams after Valtteri Bottas got the nod (by default). This year it’s the turn of Williams to keep us all guessing after Felipe Massa decided that he didn’t want to replace himself and retired, We’ve had stories that “it’s 100% Kubica” or “Paul di Resta did enough to get the seat and it’s really going to be him” and ever “Pascal Wehrlein is the number 1 choice for them” but now we’ve been thrown a curveball after the Abu Dhabi test that former Renault No.3 driver Sergey Sirotkin is now the top choice, with Daniil Kvyat in there as a backup plan, just in case.

So this week on the podcast we try to make sense of that along with the appointment of Carmen Jorda to the FIA Commission on Women in Motorsport (that’s raised a few hackles from more successful women in motorsport) and the usual roundup of the news (there’s not much but we try!) and the usual bout of tangents, including Who’s A Total Shunt and the update and new prize announcement for Formula Lee along with a few comments from the mailbag as well
