Sauber have announced that Pascal Wehlein will not take any further part in this weekend’s Australian Grand Prix, following his accident at the Race Of Champions.
The team’s new recruit for this season has said that his fitness level is not as it should be for a full race distance because of my training deficit and after discussing it with the team last night they have decided not to take any risks.
Team Principal Monisha Kaltenborn said that the team has great respect for Pascal’s openness and that it wasn’t an easy decision for him and that it’s now time to focus on his fitness for upcoming races and he will be in China as planned.
Wehrlein will be replaced from FP3 onwards by Ferrari reserve driver Antonio Giovanazzi, who has stepped up to Formula 1 this season after finishing as runner up in the 2016 GP2 series for Prema Racing
