Max Verstappen will start the Dutch Grand Prix from pole position after beating Charles Leclerc to pole position by 0.021s in qualifying at Zandvoort.

There was little to separate the two drivers, while Carlos Sainz was less than 0.1s adrift of the pole sitter in third.

Sebastian Vettel’s hopes of progressing from Q1 were dashed when he ran wide coming out of the final turn, while Daniel Ricciardo struggled to get the most of out his McLaren, leaving him in the bottom five.

There was a short delay early in Q2 when an orange flare landed on the racetrack, forcing marshals to red flag the session while the track was cleared.

Alpine were left disappointed after both cars missed out on a place in the top 10, while Pierre Gasly was denied by teammate Yuki Tsunoda, who secured the final spot in Q3 by going 0.1s faster than the Frenchman.

Lance Stroll found strong pace in the Aston Martin to make it into the final part of qualifying, but a technical issue meant the Canadian didn’t make it out in Q3.

The two Mercedes drivers missed out on the chance to show their pace in Q3 as Sergio Perez spun and crashed, resulting in a yellow flag late on in the session.
