  1. A good shout – mainly. I think Bianchi will stay at Marussia, Chilton will probably be gone, in favour of either Merhi or Stevens, depending on cashflow. Sauber will probably be all change, Sorotkin’s been waiting in the wings and brings in Russian money, in place of Gutierrez. Sutil is unlikely to stay and could leave F1, if that happens I expect either Jean-Eric Vergne or Sebastian Buemi to take his place. Toro Rosso may usher in Carlos Sainz Jr. or Antonio Felix da Costa. Mclaren I’m still unsure of – purely because of Button’s previous alliance with Honda. He’s popular in Japan. Not convinced yet that it won’t be Magnussen who goes instead of Button to take on Alonso. I’d like to see Caterham in 2015, but I don’t think we will.

    • Hi Dennis, Thanks for listening. We’ve put in a request to get included on Stitcher, so we’ll let you know if they put us on.

  2. Listening to the podcast and the plight of Merc. Smacks of the drop off of Brawn in 2009 where they went from dominating to 5/6th place In the space of 1 race….

    • That was when they had the titles more or less wrapped up and started on next year’s car as well, so it could be that they think that they don’t need to do much more development as they’re far enough ahead now, but if Ferrari are as good as they claim, then Merc could be in for a shock… This weekend will be interesting to say the least

  3. Yep Japan will reveal all I guess and it’s great that we go straight into it this weekend. potentially a very interesting end of season if Merc have dropped the ball .

    • In some ways it’s a positive thing for McLaren and Honda that at least their engine has more power than any of last year’s. But it makes the points that Verstappen & Sainz have scored all the more impressive!

  4. Hi there 3Legs 4Wheels #YourVoiceInF1 : Congrats on gaining another avid US fan from Chicago (UK ex-pat) looking for unbiased and more importantly “free” commentary on everything F1. I will be attending the Canadian race again this year for the 7th time and also Austin for the 1st time so looking forward to comparing the old with the new. Love Montreal – similarly to some other tracks mentioned, it is also a train ride from the city and walk-in event, very accessible with a strong local following and highly knowledgeable fans. For me what I want to see is probably the same as everyone else: it’s screaming power and speed in a straight line with sufficiently long braking zones to allow for overtaking into, and powering out of the corners where driver skill is at a premium. This is racing. It’s not relevant to road driving – who changes tires 3 time a day regardless of what engine or fuel we use in our car? Sure, we all (mostly) drive around as economically as possible most of the time getting from A to B, but does that do anything for our driving passion? No. If we could or if we get chance, we’re driving with less attention on fuel economy and more focus on the excitement of driving as quickly as possible. Why should we expect anything less of our F1 heroes who are supposed to be competing in a sport – the pinnacle of motorsport as it has been described. So, I don’t care what engine is used – loud is nice. Libraries and flower shows may be interesting but not as exciting as a live bleeding-ears rock concert. Pit stops are boring and artificial but “spice up the show”. Same for DRS. If the technical regulations were re-written with the real objective in mind, the artificial aspects would not be relevant or needed to spice up the show. Why the h*** are we relying on the tire (tyre) supplier to make races interesting? Madness! Also, ask the drivers for their opinions – they may not have a financial stake in the sport (arguably) but they certainly know the most about driving cars competitively. It makes sense that the FIA is entirely responsible for the Sporting Regs. but the Technical Regs. – I’m not so sure about that part because honestly they don’t have a clue about the technology or engineering that goes into racing car design. Great listening guys and good luck with #YourVoiceInF1 .

  5. I think that McLaren needs to pull out all of the stops, and perform as they claim they could have. I know Alonso is hungry for points, and I feel like this will be a fun race to watch for sure. It was definitely an interesting qual session yesterday and it almost seems like it’s not entirely a true reflection of how it all should have ended up.

  6. According to Ferrari, RAI will most likely run a 3 stop strategy and Vettel will most likely have to pull 10 laps on the supersofts… then around 30 on softs in his second. I don’t know what’s going to happen.

In the mean time, pretty interesting that Alonso just said that he hopes next year the cars are better. “They are not as fun to drive.”

  7. Awesome podcast! Very funny and with great commentary. I found it that I think very much like you guys about F1. Looking forward to more episodes.

Where can I post questions to be addressed in the show?

  8. I read that Ricciardo said that if the top 5 to what they have to they won’t see Lewis in their mirrors.
    Do you agree?
What are the chances for a SC since it will be sunny skies?

    • Sorry Ezio, only just seen this! I would have agreed with that pre race, but then the chaos at the start and the Red Flag changed everything!

  9. JoPo is seriously so shit. I’m so sick and tired of Martin Brundel making excuses for him….and saying how much of a great kid he is…..blah blah. Should of kept Kmag….

    • He’s seriously running out of lives! He’s admitted that he was pushing too hard when he crashed in Q1 yesterday when he said that he was under too much pressure. That doesn’t hold water with me. That car is capable of more than he’s getting out of it and Hulk is proving that much.

  10. Hey there gents! Good to be with you today. It’s also good to be watching in the UK, as in the states, there is a broadcast delay, so I’d see it here first even though I’m watching it…Cheers!

  11. Ive always been a fan of the Sky Sports coverage. I went as far as subscribing to streaming channels (probably illegally) and watched through my Roku. Unfortunately it seems ESPN is choosing not to show any Pre Qually or Pre race shows, so I’ll still be searching for streams for those.

Also I’ll have to see how many commercials they throw at us. Does anyone know what commentators they will use for the F1 streaming service? Will it just be the english world feed, which is Sky Sports right?

    • From what little that FOM has released it will be the Sky coverage that’s on their digital service, but unlike ESPN, you’ll get the pre-shows as well as exclusive content. When that will happen is another matter as they’ve not given anything close to a release date yet

    • Get a photo of the leaderboard with your time on and send it by email 3legs4wheels(at)gmail.com or you can tweet it in a direct message to @3legs4wheels

  12. hi there, i’m getting an error message whilst trying to download this episode with DogCatcher on Android. error 403

    looking forward to listening

  13. Thanks for the podcast – really enjoyed it 🙂 Something is really puzzling me though – and maybe its because I’ve misunderstood something: I’ve done a bit of freestyle climbing and we wear ‘sticky’ boots made from soft rubber on some climbs, while on other climbs you want more ‘edge’ or a harder rubber compound. The super soft sticky boots will always wear out faster than the harder compound, but you get a lot more grip because the rubber is sacrificial. I’d always assumed F1 tyres were much the same: more grip, more rubber left of the track, higher degradation. Harder tyres last longer, but offer less grip. So I was really surprised to hear Scarbs talking about degradation as if it were something separate from stickiness or grip?
I think the FIA should do away with any tyre rules beyond specifying a hard tyre compound that will last the whole race no stops, a medium that will last half the race, one stop, and a soft tyre that will last 1/3 of the race, two stops. The hard tyre would just have to be approx. 30 seconds slower over the whole race distance than the medium tyre, to allow for the time lost for the pit stop, and the soft tyre 60 seconds faster than the hard. All this can be calculated by the manufacturer these days. Then let the teams choose the best combination of compounds and pit stops for their car on each circuit. No artificial rules to force pit stops – they wouldn’t be needed, because maths, physics and engineering would determine strategies which would inevitably vary widely across all the teams, especially with downforce, circuit type and track temperature. This seems pretty straightforward to me, so I’m probably missing something?

  14. Hi guys and gals, I’ve been listening to your podcasts for about a year now, and contentwise I like them. I do however want to ask you to pay a little attention to the audio-levels. Suzie is a nice addition, but she completely drowned out almost all other speakers. I am constantly having to raise or lower the volumes, this time even more than with the usual crew. Otherwise, very entertaining podcast.

  15. You guys should probably look more at the live comments lol. You spent half an hour debating whether Leclerc should have overtaken Vettel who was on fresher tires, except Vettel wasnt on fresher tires. He didnt have any sets left to use that’s why they didn’t pit him. Leclerc had the newer rubbers.

    Also 100% Vettel’s fault. 😀

  16. Is the 2020 prediction league closed? I’m not able to “select race” when entering predictions – thanks!

  17. Hungarian Grand Prix again this weekend (last paragraph)? I think it should be British Grand Prix the weekend after next.

      • No sweat! I think no one else noticed 😉

OT: I thoroughly enjoy the podcasts, even if F1 news is slow. I have about 15 hours of commuting every week, so the podcast is always too short.

  18. Am I missing something or is it obvious Kvyat is perpetually on Red Bull to put energy drinks on Moscow shelves?

  19. As always good fun listening to the podcast. But if you have questions about racing in Saudi Arabia, you could argue that racing in China and Hungary could also be not-done.

  20. When Ferrari makes a good car and Leclerc is winning races/championships I wonder if Lee plans to apologize for his never ending Leclerc overrated, Vettel/Sainz being better driver comments. Everyone else with eyes see him as top3 driver right now. Also if im gonna keep hearing loud breathing or vaping in a mic while other people talk, im gonna lose my mind. Have a nice day. :))

  21. Yes i finally joined the prediction club !
Can’t wait for racing to start again.
Thank you for making such a great podcast, keep up the good work.

  22. Glad you guys are back at it. I only started watching F1 earlier last year and you guys are by far THE MOST FUN podcast out there. Can’t wait to hear your post testing breakdown and predictions.

  23. The part I don’t understand about Miami is why it was a track anyone could see would allow no real racing, since they were making it in a parking lot with cones? Why not make a track which encouraged racing? Anyway my solutions are 1) a spec set of less powerful brakes to lower costs and extend braking zones, which is where we want to see the action, and 2) more track between the two ends of the pits so the penalty for pitting is less. As long as the pitlane is parallel the fastest straightest equal length part of the track people will baby their tires.

  24. You mentioned that there were many participation awards for the last race because we never saw them on TV. Keep in mind that in years past, we rarely had a fight at the front so the only action was in the midfield and lower, therefore, more air time for them. Now that there is action upfront, I actually shout at the television when they show the runners who are not fighting for points.

  25. Predictions for qualifying were closed too early. With Q1 starting at 16.00 I couldn’t change my prediction anymore at 15.25. Luckily I didn’t want to change my prediction for qualifying. BTW, still enjoying every podcast you manage to produce!!

  26. Thanks for this league. It was fun and apparently beginners luck was on my side. What do I win lol. See ya next year
